All About Singapore Personalized Employment Pass

Personalized Employment Pass or widely known as PEP is a type of Singapore work visa that unbinds Employment Pass holders and non-permanent residents from a specific employer for a time period of up to five (5) years. PEP was launched in Singapore on January 1, 2007 by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

PEP is the work visa granted to an individual based on his abilities and professional experience. For a PEP applicant, it is not required that he has been already engaged by an employer in Singapore. A new PEP holder has at least 6 months from collection of his visa to seek employment in Singapore.

The following are the eligibility requirements of PEP:

  • A S$7,000 fixed monthly income drawn not earlier than 6 months at the time of application.
  • A former P1 category Employment Pass holder who is not a Singaporean resident must not be unemployed former P1 category Employment Pass holder who is not a Singaporean resident must not be unemployed for a consecutive period of six months from application period.
  • An Employment Pass holder at present
  • A current holder of P2 category Employment Pass who has working experience in a P category of Employment Pass that earns an annual income of at least S$30,000 for at least 2 years.

On a P or Q1 category Employment Pass, a foreign graduate from institutions of higher learning in Singapore must have at least two years of working experience and should have a minimum of S$30,000 annual income.

In filling up the PEP application form, PEP applicants must see to it that the following details are complete: passport, name and address of employer, job and salary details, local contact details and details of dependant pass holder, if applicable. It is also recommended that relevant papers such as copy of passport, appointment letter from current employer, last three months pay slips; copy of higher education certifications and copy of resume are included when submitting the PEP application.

It takes 2 to 3 weeks in the processing of PEP applications. An In-Principle Approval letter will be sent upon approval of the application. PEP is valid for only 5 years upon issuance, and the collection of PEP can only be made up to three months. It is important that PEP holders uphold their current status by being updated with the authorities on matters relating to employment, local contact, salary, travel documents and address during 5 years period. In case the PEP is lost, the holder must immediately seek for employment. In order to receive the new card, the passport and police report card must be submitted.
